In my post searching for missing parts, I talked about how the NTSB put out word that they were looking for parts from TWA 841 and that they eventually found many of the missing parts in a farmer’s field in Saginaw, Michigan. Well, they didn’t have Google Earth back in 1979. But with a little research and luck I’ve been able to locate the exact location where those parts where found.
The photo gallery below takes you through the flight from takeoff from JFK to the recovery and pull up. The incident happened at night. These images give a close approximation of what it might have looked like had it occurred during the day. Click on any image to bring up the photo gallery. Note: The official record is that the plane recovered around five thousand feet. Hoot claims that the recovery was much closer to the ground, as close as a few hundred feet.
